President Uhuru Kenyatta has questioned the huge cases filed by activist Okiya Omtatah and how swiftly they are handled by the Judiciary.

The President spoke during the state of Judiciary address at the Supreme Court.

Though not directly, Uhuru said that there are professionals who have always stopped projects through the numerous cases they file.

“There are professionals who have made it their business to stop projects in court…we read about them every day and we know them, I ask myself, why is it that 99% of these cases are filed by one person? And you give the verdict on the same day even without telling the person to come on the next week. I think there is something there that one must interrogate…” Uhuru said.

The president also asked the Judiciary to speed up the convictions of corruption cases filed in court which is what Kenyans expect.

We all want to fly first class…

He also addressed the Judiciary budget cuts saying that his government is going to work closely with the Judiciary adding that his administration will continue to do is best within resources available to support the judiciary with what is required to enhance the access of justice.

“We must accept we all want to fly first class…but it is the tax of Kenyans and we are going to use what is available. We must also think out of the box and think how we will operate within the resources that we have.” Uhuru said

The president also proposed various ways of cutting down expenses while addressing  the judiciary.

“The areas we focused our cuts on will not grind to halt the justice process. We do not need to buy three news papers in a day, why can’t you buy your own newspaper I also buy mine nowadays…yiu don’t have find it on your desk.”

“We have a whole School of Government here where you can do conferences, get good meals and nice rooms… why do you need to fly all the way to Mombasa to stay at Serena hotel,” Uhuru added

However the President assured the judiciary to engage in case anything to speed up court processes is required.
