The UK government has arranged a chartered flight to evacuate British nationals from Lebanon as fighting intensifies in the region.
Foreign Secretary David Lammy warned that the situation is “volatile” and could “deteriorate quickly” after Israel launched a “localised and targeted” ground operation in southern Lebanon against Hezbollah.
The flight, departing from Beirut on Wednesday, is available to British citizens, their spouses or partners, and children under 18.
Vulnerable individuals will be given priority, with passengers required to pay £350 per seat.
Lebanon has seen fresh Israeli airstrikes, and the UK government is urging its nationals to leave immediately.
Between 4,000 and 6,000 UK citizens are believed to be in Lebanon.
The Foreign Office emphasised the flight is part of ongoing efforts to protect British nationals, with additional flights possible depending on demand.
Victoria Lupton, a British national in Lebanon, shared her distress, saying, “We are living in a state of terror.”
Many British citizens, like Lupton, have already sought alternative flights out of the country due to the rapidly worsening security situation.
As tensions escalate between Israel and Hezbollah, the UK government has advised against all travel to Lebanon and is preparing for possible further evacuations.
