UN Warns Gaza Faces Widespread Starvation Amid Limited Aid Access

The United Nations human rights office has warned that Israel is allowing only limited humanitarian supplies into the Gaza Strip, raising the risk of widespread starvation, officials said on Tuesday.

“In the past few weeks, Israeli authorities have only allowed aid to enter in quantities that remain far below what would be required to avert widespread starvation,” said Thameen Al-Kheetan, a spokesperson for the U.N. human rights office, during a press briefing in Geneva.

He added that the risk of starvation in Gaza is a “direct result of the Israeli government’s policy of blocking humanitarian aid.”

Israel’s military agency responsible for coordinating aid, COGAT, said the country invests “considerable efforts” in distributing supplies to Gaza, but the U.N. maintained that current deliveries are insufficient to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of the territory’s population.
