A young aspiring Meru MCA candidate who lost in the August 9 elections has gone viral after recording a video in which he laments the loss.
Festus Kithinji, who was running for the Mbeu Ward MCA seat on a Wiper ticket, claims he spent all of his savings on campaigning.
He described how he felt cheated after losing the position for which he had saved even using HELB funds since beginning his political career three years ago.
“I’ve used all of my resources; I’ve been saving, even my HELB, since I arrived on campus, for this election,” he explained.
He claimed that he felt cheated because he was leading in almost all polls but his name did not appear on the ballot.
“I was leading in the polls, but at the last minute you just decided to give someone money, which is unfair to me.”
“As I stand here, my account reads zero; I put all my efforts there thinking you were going to give me this; you people are liars; why did you lie to me, calling me mheshimiwa, when you knew you would never give me your votes?” he said.
He was also disappointed that some polling stations did not receive a single vote for him, while others assured him that 2027 would be better.
“2027 will be better in whatever way, people will come with money, and I can’t promise I’ll have enough money for you people.”
He stated that he is considering leaving politics and that no one should contact him at any time.
