Hundreds of youth affected by the First Choice Recruitment Agency foreign job scam have staged street protests in Eldoret.
They are demanding a refund of millions of shillings paid to the Agency to secure jobs in Qatar and other countries prior to last year’s World Cup.
More than 10,000 youths from Uasin Gishu were affected, and the Agency is now being investigated by the DCI and the Senate.
Judy Chepchirchir, CEO of First Choice Recruitment Agency, has denied swindling money from young people and failing to offer them jobs abroad.
She had ignored summons from the Senate Labour Committee to respond to a petition from affected youths three times.
Chepchirchir has however denied that more than 10,000 youths had been swindled by her agency.
She claimed that most of the affected had been refunded their money.
Kimutai Kirui, a human rights activist, presented the petition to the Senate.
“We are wondering why it has taken too long for the government to act on the firm linked to the scam “, said Kirui.
He claimed the company has been issuing fake cheques to the victims.
Parents claimed they were defrauded, accusing the Agency’s management of intimidating them in their quest for justice.
