Waiguru orders closure of Kirinyaga county offices over rise in COVID-19 cases

Governor Ann Waiguru has directed the closure of all County services in Kirinyaga county after an upsurge in Coronavirus cases. – By Gerald Gekara.

“In view of the increasing cases of #COVID19 in the county & to arrest any further spread amongst staff, our county HQ in Kutus being most affected will be closed for 2 weeks effective 16/11/20.” tweeted Waiguru.

In the statement, Waiguru reassured that critical funtions will be carried out with strict observance of the Ministry of Health guidelines.

This will be the seventh county to cease authority after Kakamega, Vihiga, Mandera, Kilifi, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Bungoma and Trans Nzoia shut their devolved assemblies after a rise in infections amongst their employees.

Kenya continues to record high death rates with the Ministry of Health confirming a further 20 patients have succumbed to the disease as of November 15th. The death toll now stands at 1,269

In the tally, 972 people more people tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 6,648. This brings the total to 70,245 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country.
