Susan Wangari, the wife to former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu alias Baba Lao took the stand today to defend herself in the Ksh 588 million graft case.
The former Kiambu County first lady pleaded with the court to acquit her saying that she was illegally charged as her company followed all the due process to win a tender with the Kiambu County Government.
Susan took to the dock and told the trial Magistrate Thomas Nyoki that her Husband Ferdinand Waititu and herself are the proprietors of Bienvenue Delta Hotel, a company believed to have illegally acquired millions of money from the County Government of Kiambu through Testimony Enterprise Limited.
She confirmed that Bienvenue Delta Hotel received Ksh 2.2M from Testimony enterprise limited and also a cheque dated 14 January 2019 amounting to Ksh 780K drawn by testimony enterprise Ltd in favor of Bienvenue Delta Hotel and another cheque of Ksh 800K drawn by Testimony Enterprise ltd in favor of Bienvenue Delta Hotel.
She also she confirmed that Ferdinand Waititu and herself are the signatories of the account of Bienvenue Delta Hotel.
Waititu, his wife Susan Wangari, Testimony Enterprises, its directors and others were in 2019 charged over the irregular award of Sh588,198,328.20 road tender in Kiambu County.
The prosecution closed its case in 2023 after calling 32 witnesses and presenting a number of documentary evidence.
The case proceeds in Court.
