Wajackoyah Warns Ruto Over Atwoli Friendship- “He’ll Make Us Hate You”

President William Ruto has been warned by Roots party leader George Wajackoyah not to associate with Central Organisation Trade Union (COTU) secretary general Francis Atwoli, claiming that the latter was notorious for switching camps.

Wajackoyah argued on Sunday, December 18, in Navakholo, Kakamega, that Western Kenya cannot be led by leaders who lack a political stance.

“Atwoli can’t stand before Luyhas and tell them that we need unity, when he has been standing with Raila and all of a sudden he has jumped ship. We shall never follow that example,” he said.

“Mr President please remove Atwoli away from you, he is going to smear dirt on you that will make us hate you permanently.”

The veteran lawyer urged Ruto to disassociate himself from Atwoli, claiming that the latter would soil the President’s reputation.

Wajackoyah believes Luyha leaders should instead work together to develop communities in Western Kenya.

He said Atwoli is not and will never be part of the Luyha community.

This is after Atwoli met President William Ruto a few days after showing signs of working with the Kenya Kwanza government.

In the run-up to the August 9 general election, Atwoli supported Raila Odinga’s Azimio La Umoja.

He campaigned vehemently against Ruto’s presidency, even going on record saying that Ruto will never succeed former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Atwoli was part of a delegation from the Luhya community that met Ruto at the State House.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale, former Kakamega gubernatorial candidate Cleophas Malala, and politician Rashid Echesa were among those who accompanied him.
