Wajir, Mandera residents laud Uhuru over project

Residents of Isiolo, Mandera and Wajir have lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for constructing the Nuno to Modogashe highway. The residents say the President has opened up the hitherto neglected area and said the Government poverty eradication efforts were being felt on the ground.

“Politics aside, the Nuno Modogashe road has improved our lives, said Mohammed Hassan, a resident.
Hassan thanked the Government, through the Kenya National Highways Authority(KeNHA) for constructing more than 120 water pans in the area. Among the key advantages are the reduction of travel time between Nuno and Modogashe.

The 136Km distance used to take a whole day. Now it takes less than one and half hours. According to the Ministry of Roads CS James Macharia, Security has improved tremendously and said patrols have been enhanced.
“People can travel any time of the day including at night. We will ensure this road remains a gem for the people of Modogashe”‘ Macharia said. Macharia said the project was completed within the stipulated time and cost and urged all contractors to ensure the same standards are maintained.

According to the project brief, the road will bring down the cost doing business and improve the living standards of the locals. “Modogashe is now a very vibrant business hub because it is at the junction of Isiolo and Wajir Towns. It is expected that the town will be even much bigger after tarmacking the Isiolo-Modogashe Road which is being funded by World Bank”, the project brief says.

Access to water has been increased because of the boreholes and water pans that have been handed over to the communities. It is really a game-changer, the brief says
