Water CS Urges Farmers To Practice Irrigation

Sicily Kariuki, the Cabinet Secretary for Water and Sanitation, has urged farmers in Nyandarua County to use boreholes and desilted dams to undertake irrigation farming for profit.

Ms Kariuki, who spoke in Rurii while on a visit of Nyandarua Central Sub County’s water projects, advised farmers to use the resource to improve their livelihoods.

She noted that boreholes drilled across the county are expected to provide clean water to at least 4,000 families.

The CS noticed that most regions of the county have not been able to live up to their full potential as the county’s food basket due to a lack of water.

"For each project, we've established management committees to ensure that the resource is completely and effectively utilized for the benefit of all." The committees will be in charge of running the project, protecting the panels, and distributing them," she stated.

The CS visited various boreholes in Rurii and Kaimbaga Wards, including the Githungiri, Kianduba, Kahia, Theuri, and Kagaa boreholes, which were being built with the assistance of the National Government through the National Irrigation Authority.
