Waterfall tragedy: Search for a missing woman drowned while taking pictures enters day 3

Jemima's photo session turned tragic when she slipped and fell into the river.

The police and residents living along River Ewaso Narok in Laikipia County, have launched a rescue mission to locate a lady who drowned while taking pictures at Thomson falls in Nyahururu.

According to his brother, the 39-year old woman identified as Ms Jemima Oresha was standing on a stone at the base of the waterfall, when she slipped and fell into the river.

Mr. Zablon said that the victim had traveled to Nyahururu town from Kitale in Trans-Nzoia County on Saturday to visit her relatives who sleep in Nyahururu and was set to return to Kitale on Monday.

Before they left for Kitale, his sister said she had to visit the spectacular waterfall first. He added that once they reached the location she was very excited to ascertain the falls and insisted that he take photos of her while standing on a stone next to the river.

Zablon informed security officers at the location who informed police and a rescue mission was launched on that same Sunday.

Nyahururu Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC) Geoffrey Mayek said that the mission was suspended on Sunday evening due to the high levels of the river.

He appealed to locals living downstream to report back to police just in case they spot the body on the river.
