Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Director-General Major-General Mohammed Badi has put Nairobi bar and eatery owners on notice against selling alcoholic drinks – By Gerald Gekara.
”Lets close for 30 days as we await further directives. If you would like to drink, buy your drink and drink at home … If i get you, you will be on the wrong side of the law,” he warned.
Badi also added that he will personally conduct inspections within the metropolitan to make sure the ban which came into effect on Monday, is implemented to the letter.
“I will personally go round to make sure the bars are closed, we’ve to take care of the directives that are given, it’s my duty to make sure within the county, there’s no bar open,” he said.
In response to concerns of overstepping his mandate, the Badi clarified that his oversight role on the enforcement of the new measures doesn’t amount to interference with county functions under Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.
“Ours is to make sure that folks obey rules. it’s nothing to interfere with liquor licensing or trade. I don’t issue the license, neither will I revoke,” he added.
