Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti aspirant has come out to explain the circumstances that led to her receiving a master’s degree before completing her undergraduate degree.
This comes just a day after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) cleared her to run for Governor after a complaint from two Machakos voters.
Ndeti stated in an exclusive interview on Spice FM on Monday morning that she was able to pursue a Masters’s degree before an undergraduate degree because she studied in the United Kingdom, whose system is vastly different from Kenya’s.
“I did not waste my time going to court because somebody questioned my documents. I have had the certificates for about 30 years now. I studied in London; Southbank and City university and if there is anyone in doubt, why don’t you approach the institutions,” she said.
“After graduating with my master’s in 1992, I got my first child and since my husband was working, I was a stay-at-home mother taking care of my children,” she disclosed to Spice FM.
According to the third-time governor candidate, she earned a Certificate in Business Systems and Designs before pursuing an Advanced Diploma in the same field.
A year later, she completed her Graduate Diploma in the same field before returning to City University for her Master’s Degree, which she received in 1992. All of this, she claims, took four years to complete.
A graduate diploma is a post-degree bachelor’s academic or vocational qualification. It is typically conferred by a university or other accredited institution of higher learning.
Ndeti claims that after her maternity leave, she returned to South Bank University and completed her Graduate Diploma to Masters degree.
“I had to learn for a year and do a physical project which translated to marks. It was converted in 1995. That is why I don’t feel the need to keep on justifying my academic papers’ authenticity,” Ndeti added.
Her accusers vowed to move on to the High court since the tribunal recused itself from determining the authenticity of her degrees.
The aspirant is on the radar of the DCI alongside Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja.
