Swedish investor Ricardo Badoer has revealed plans to start an East African League.
The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Wazito FC president said that the KPL is not run professionally and players are suffering.
He claimed that greed by the league’s management was taking much from the game, leaving the players to scramble for a paltry 10 per cent of the proceeds.
On Monday evening, Badoer revealed he had secured a certificate of incorporation that recognises USL Company Limited which will run the league in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
“People who know me understand that I never…sleep,” Badoer said in his official Twitter account.
“We have now put the first step towards East African League by registering the company. League logo is being registered and will share ASAP. Will reveal more info…in coming weeks,” he said.
The league will take the format of Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States of America.
The league will have 10 male and female football teams with the other 10 teams coming from basketball.
It is not clear whether local federations will buy the idea or not. However, Badoer has hinted that he is willing to go all the way to help players improve their lives and get exposure.
