Safina Party Secretary General Joakim Simiyu has come out to express his frustrations with the recent breach of President William Ruto’s security.
While speaking during an interview with Obinna TV on Monday, May 26, 2026, the outspoken secretary general of the Jimmy Wanjigi-led Safina Party stated that despite them being opponents and his party seeking to remove William Ruto from power, they want, as a party, to defeat a healthy person.
He went ahead to condemn the lapse in security, saying that no matter the political divide, President William Ruto’s safety should be taken seriously.

“People should take President Ruto’s security very seriously; I do not want to see President Ruto harmed in a rally. We want to defeat a healthy man!” Joakim Simiyu said.
Ruto’s security breach
This comes days after William Ruto’s security was breached by a man who ran to the podium, held him by the neck, and pleaded for help from the president.
His hawk-eyed security officers, who might have lapsed earlier, quickly swarmed into action and, within no time, had neutralised him and carried him away.
This saw immediate action from the Inspector General of Police, IG Douglas Kanja, who then made sweeping reforms in the presidential escort security team.
Gachagua suggestion
The former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has also come out to take a swipe at the security lapse, saying that despite President William Ruto being his competitor, he does not want anything to happen to him that can endanger his life.
He stated that he is too concerned with the president’s security since it is a matter of national concern. He added that however unpopular Ruto may be, he deserves to remain healthy, and no injury should be inflicted against him.
He cited the Rwandan situation in 1992, where the country was plunged into chaos of untold magnitude because of simple mistakes such as those witnessed in Kilifi.
Firing of Murkomen
The Democracy for Citizens (DCP) leader also called for the firing of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, saying that he should also be blamed for the breach of Ruto’s security.
He added that Murkomen does not have the maturity that befits the office of the interior minister and should have been relocated to a less sensitive docket such as the Ministry of Sports.
Many Kenyans, both in the opposition and those allied to the state, have also come out to condemn the breach in Ruto’s security.
