Well-wishers raise Over Sh13m for fallen and injured anti-tax protesters

Kenyans have acted in solidarity with their injured colleagues following the Tuesday, June 25, 2024, anti-Finance Bill #OccupyParliament countrywide protests.

In a public drive, Kenyans onboarded Africa’s largest online fundraising platform, M-Changa to raise funds that will carter for those wounded during the protests.

Against a target of Ksh10 million, the over 18,800 Kenyans had raised Ksh13,309,414 as of Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 6:50 pm.

“Public support from businesses, medics, lawyers, and ordinary Kenyans has been phenomenal. We still need your support to assist with the medical expenses of those seriously injured, or hospitalized,” a statement by Defenders Coalition – proponents of the fundraiser read in part.

All donations will go to Defenders Coalition through which the funds will be disbursed directly to hospitals and clinics caring for the injured.

Kenyans have come together during this period to offer medical assistance. Kenya Red Cross Society led medical evacuation and emergency response efforts across the country during the anti-Finance Bill protests.

Popular tweep Dr. Austin alias JaPrado had mobilised over 200 medical practitioners, 22 ambulances and over 500 blood donors to cater for victims of the protests.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi also deployed the Sonko Rescue Team comprising 21 professional medics in 7 fully-equipped ambulances.
