WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, recently introduced of a new feature that will enable users to set an expiry date for groups on the app.
The feature is called Expiring Groups and is designed to provide enhanced user privacy.
With Expiring Groups, group admins can set a time limit for the group, after which it will automatically be deleted.
This means that users can have temporary conversations without worrying about their data being stored on WhatsApp’s servers indefinitely.
The feature is expected to be particularly useful for businesses and organisations that use WhatsApp for temporary projects or events.
Instead of manually deleting the group, admins can simply set an expiry date and let the group delete itself automatically.
To set an expiry date, group admins can simply access the Group Settings menu and select the option to set an expiration date.
They can then choose the date and time when they want the group to expire. Users in the group will receive a notification when the group is about to expire, giving them the option to extend the group for another period or let it expire.
The Expiring Groups feature is the latest addition to WhatsApp’s privacy-focused features, which also include end-to-end encryption and disappearing messages.
The feature is expected to roll out to all WhatsApp users in the coming weeks.
