Maraga’s Last Laugh: Six Judges Sworn-in

The four Judges are; Korir Weldon Kipyegon, Muchelule Aggrey Otsyula, Odunga George Vincent, and Joel Mwaura Ngugi.

The former Chief Justice David Maraga could not miss the swearing-in of Six Judges who had been rejected by the former president of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta.

The fifth president of Kenya Dr William Ruto kept his word during his inauguration as the fifth president of Kenya that he would oversee the swearing-in of the Judges whose appointment was revoked by his predecessor.

The four Judges are; Korir Weldon Kipyegon, Muchelule Aggrey Otsyula, Odunga George Vincent, and Joel Mwaura Ngugi.

The President had also earlier signed an Executive Order on the appointment of environmental and land court judges in the presence of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The former president, Uhuru Kenyatta did not give any reason for the revocation of their appointment.

The Judges have been on waiting to know the fate of their appointment for the last three years since the Judicial Service Commission forwarded their names to the then President of the republic for their appointment.

‘Wakora Networks’

During the forwarding of the names, the Commission forwarded the names of 40 judges and magistrates to the president for an appointment, however only 34 Judges.

This made Maraga furious, as Uhuru ‘revisited’ the ‘wakora network’ which had nullified his 2017 election win.

The Executive further tightened the noose on the Judiciary by slashing its budget, prompting the now-famous lamentation by Maraga.

However, during his exit from office in 2021, Maraga left Chief Justice Martha Koome with one assurance; stand by the law and Kenyans will stand with you.

The Judiciary under CJ Koome leadership had nullified the BBI Process, and thrown out the Presidential Elections petition.

This is why Kenyans erupted in deafening shouts as CJ Koome arrived at the Kasarani stadium.
