The Wiper Democratic Movement, chaired by former Vice President Stephen Musyoka weighed in on the forthcoming Building Bridges Initiative report, that destines to change the constitution.
However, after being seen on and off in the campaigns, many are split on his stand. Instances of him declaring support for the BBI, and in some occasions opposing some of its clauses, the Wiper leader seems to have finally come to a conclusion.
“The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is a National Conversation that gives an opportunity for Kenyans to reflect on how far we have come as a Nation since the Promulgation of 2010 Constitution.” He said in a statement.
Kalonzo praised the BBI report for having ‘met’ the concerns of local Kenyans, and outlining the impact of devolution.
” It provides us with the chance to strengthen Devolution and consolidate gains made under the new dispensation. Importantly, it provides a unique opportunity to address the fears and concerns of millions of Kenyans, who feel excluded in our governance structure.” He added.
The former vice president took a jab at supposedly ‘tanga tanga’ politicians for spiriting violence against those in support of peace processes.
“More than ever before, we clearly see why we direly need the BBI Framework; when merchants of violence who thrive in the politics of bitterness and threats are regrouping. Merchants of violence will have no space in post-BBI Kenyan.”
Wiper party has also announced its intentions to engage citizens and it’s following in a nationwide campaign to steer the BBI agenda that seems to threaten the peaceful co-existence since the Raila- Uhuru handshake.
The constant rallying against the president resulted in abusive language that saw the arrest of Emurua Dikir MP Johana Ng’eno, and Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi.
Kalonzo condemned the attack on President Uhuru, calling upon leaders to embrace peace in their utterances.
“Wiper is appalled by the recent political utterances by a section of political leaders that are likely to plunge this country into anarchy, and solemnly declares that such leaders cannot be entrusted with the leadership of this country.” he added.
Wiper party has already expressed interest in fronting a political candidate, with Kalonzo being perceived as the only formidable flagbearer.
