A mother of five has been arrested after homicide detectives exhumed the bodies of her two daughters, aged 12 and 9, who were secretly buried in a shallow grave at their Nyatembe village home in Sotik, Bomet County.
The woman, who was cohabiting with a man, had been missing for two weeks before neighbours discovered the shallow grave in a tea plantation next to the home.
According to area chief Lenny Kirui, police are also searching for the woman’s lover, the prime suspect, who reportedly fled after the crime.
Police exhumed the bodies after obtaining a court order on Tuesday evening.
The woman is being held at Sotik Police Station, and the bodies were taken to Kapkatet Hospital mortuary.
