The lady who was detained after being discovered with a phone related to the murder of Nairobi businessman Kassim Jiraw told the court that she acquired it from her lover.
According to the Standard, Ms. Sidi Garama, 56, told the Mombasa High Court yesterday that she sought to find out how her partner, Mr. Katana Ngala, got the cell phone but he refused to tell her.
Since Mr. Kassim’s murder in September 2018, Mr. Katana has remained missing.
The body of the businessman was discovered in Malindi, Kilifi County.
The phone was used to contact Mr. Kassim on the night he was slain, according to investigations.
Ms. Sidi told Justice Ong’injo she was busy cooking in Mr. Katana’s kitchen at his home in Lokole when the police came to arrest him.
She said she later gave the phone to her daughter Ms. Celina Garama to use.
“I was cooking when I was arrested over the phone I took from Mr. Katana. Mr. Katana run away and I don’t know where he went. He never told me where he got the phone from,” said Ms. Sidi.
Ms. Celina, 33, who was also arrested over the same phone, said her mother handed her the phone and told her she had received it from Mr Katana.
“My mother brought me the phone and told me she had taken it from Katana who is my mother’s boyfriend,” Ms Celina said in her testimony.
The burnt remains of Mr Kassim was discovered discarded in Arabuko Sokoke Forest. His assassins allegedly poured acid on his body, according to reports.
Mr Kassim had already supplied pharmaceuticals to Mombasa County, according to Mr Abdirahman, before receiving two further bids in Kilifi.
He said that his brother was supposed to earn Sh8 million for delivering X-Ray foils and Sh15 million for providing air conditioners to Kilifi County hospitals. In 2018, during his trial before Justice Erick Ogola, Charo admitted to taking part in the murder.
