Construction has officially resumed on the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) viaduct along Milimani Close, a key segment of the broader Valley Road–Kenyatta Avenue/Ngong Road/Nyerere Road Interchange project.
The works, which include the Upper Hill–Haile Selassie Overpass and several associated road network upgrades, had previously stalled due to logistical setbacks, delayed payments, and utility relocation challenges.
However, KURA contractors are now back on site with visible activity, signaling renewed momentum for the critical urban mobility project.
The elevated viaduct is designed to provide a direct link between the Central Business District and Ngong Road, allowing motorists to bypass major bottlenecks by using a flyover that connects from Haile Selassie Avenue through Milimani Close and exits near the Kenya National Library.
Launched under Nairobi’s Decongestion Programme, the full interchange system which includes widening and reconfiguration of key junctions is intended to create seamless movement between Upper Hill, Kilimani, and the CBD, cutting down commute times and easing traffic flow.
KURA has yet to provide a revised completion date.
