Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has lashed at Kilifi North MP Owen Baya, calling him a betrayer of the Kilifi people.

Governor Kingi said it was unfortunate that Mr Baya had decided to take a dive and become a sharp critic of his administration even though he has a part to play as a Kilifi leader.

The Govenror spoke during the burial of the late Rachael Mbaji Majala, wife to the Malindi Town Ward MCA David Kadenge at the family farm in Jimba, Watamu ward.

“Owen Baya, you were my first county secretary and a leader who looked focused for the service delivery of the people of Kilifi. Even after you became an MP, you used to visit my office, discus issue of importance to the people. What happened until you know tell me about office issues in a funeral,” the Governor said.

Earlier on Mr Baya had asked the Governor to intervene after the legislator received complaints from the communities that they were being charged a lot of money to get Covid-19 certificates while seeking jobs in the hotels.

“Mr Governor, Watamu is known for tourism and many youths depend on tourism. But they don’t have oney to pay for Covid-19 certificates. I think they need your assistance,” Mr Baya said.

But you have my number…

But the Governor was categorically that the lawmaker was messing himself up and that he should have pursued the right channel to air his complains and not during a burial.

“You have my number and all my contacts.  So did you have to wait until we lose this soul for you to come and tell that? Let us get serious sometimes.  Come back home because this is where you belong and not the other group,” the Governor said.

Mr Baya and Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa are leading Deputy President Dr William Ruto’Tangatanga team in the region and they have been in a recent past critical of Governor Kingi s projects implementation plans.

The Governor in apparent reply to Ms Jumwa who had left after addressing the burial before his visit said it makes no different when one undress to chase a mad person as they will now be called to mad people.

“Let the mad person continue with their rhetoric but I cannot put off my clothes and start chasing after them. I shall also be one of them and I don’t want to reach there,” said the Governor.

The Governor said it is only through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report that Coast issues will be addressed and asked Owen and his team who are opposing the report to rethink.
