Kenyan Land Surveyor In Trouble For ‘Conning’ Zambian Government

A land surveyor has been charged with defrauding the Zambian High Commission embassy of about Sh 1.5 billion on land located along Ngong road in Nairobi county.

The surveyor Gilbert Oketch Oyoo appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina and denied the allegations of conspiracy to defraud and forgery leveled against him by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Oyoo appeared in court today after being summoned last month after going into hiding following the prosecution of his co-accused people Neeraj Jayatilal Kalaiya and James Kulali Onunga on March 7,2023.

In the first count, Oyoo was charged with conspiring to defraud the Zambian High Commission of its parcel of land reference number 1/9B measuring approximately 0.75 Hectares valued at USD 12 million (Ksh 1,492,800,000) on unknown dates and locations within the Republic of Kenya with Neeraj and Kulali and others not before court.

“On unknown dates and place within the Republic of kenya, Oyoo jointly with others not before court, with intent to defraud zambian High Commission of their land LR 1/9B situated along Ngong road within Nairobi County,forged a Beacon Certificate dated December 23,2017, purporting it to be a genuine beacon certificate on the land, a fact you knew to be false,” he was charged in the second count.

Further, the surveyor denied that on June 18,2018 at Survey of Kenya within Nairobi county together with his co-accused person Neeraj with intent to defraud the High Commission its land forged a Deed Plan number 424088.

He was released on a bond of Ksh 1 million with an alternative cash bail of ksh 100,000.
