Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders in Washington on Monday as his most productive meeting yet with the American leader, emphasizing unity, security guarantees, and potential steps toward peace with Russia.

“This was the best of our meetings, and that is important,” Zelenskyy told reporters afterward. “It was a long and detailed conversation, and today was a demonstration of true unity between Europe and the United States in support of Ukraine.”

On Ukrainian Territory
Zelenskyy said he held an extensive discussion with Trump about Ukraine’s occupied territories, even presenting maps to clarify the extent of Russian control. “It seems to me that the president heard me,” he noted, while adding: “The question of territories is something we will leave between me and Putin.”

On Security Guarantees
The Ukrainian leader underscored that security guarantees remain the “starting point” for ending the war. He confirmed that the United States had signaled readiness to participate in a formal framework, with details expected within 7–10 days.

Part of the guarantees, Zelenskyy said, would include a $90 billion weapons package, covering aircraft, air defense systems, and other equipment, along with U.S. commitments to purchase Ukrainian-made drones once export channels reopen.

On Possible Talks With Russia
Following the summit, Trump contacted Russian President Vladimir Putin to explore possible diplomatic steps. According to Zelenskyy, Moscow proposed a bilateral meeting with Ukraine followed by a trilateral session including the U.S.

“We are ready for any formats at the level of leaders, because only at the level of leaders can these complex and painful issues be resolved,” Zelenskyy said. He confirmed his readiness for a direct meeting with Putin, with a trilateral summit to follow depending on progress.

The comments mark Zelenskyy’s most explicit endorsement yet of potential face-to-face talks with Putin, even as fighting continues on multiple fronts in Ukraine.
