The Royal Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (RSPCA) is prosecuting Kurt Zouma and his brother Yoan under the Animal Welfare Act after a disturbing video of Kurt slapping and kicking one of his pet cats surfaced last month.
When the footage, shot by Yoan, surfaced on social media in February, it sparked widespread condemnation and resulted in a hefty fine for Kurt.
Shortly after the video went viral, the RSPCA took in both of Kurt Zouma’s cats, and an investigation into animal cruelty was launched in collaboration with the police.
“Following a full and thorough investigation, we have started the process of bringing a prosecution against Kurt Zouma and Yoan Zouma under the Animal Welfare Act.
“The two cats continue to be cared for by the RSPCA. We will be in a position to release more information once a court date is confirmed,” The RSPCA, which has the authority to prosecute, said in a statement on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, West Ham stated that they have been cooperating with the RSPCA’s investigation and emphasized that the cats suffered no physical injuries.
