The IEBC has cleared Roots Party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah to run for president in the August 9 elections.

Wajackoyah had been turned away on Monday because of insufficient signatures.

According to IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, Wajackoyahfailed to obtain the required 2,000 signatures in each county in at least 24 counties.

The IEBC therefore gave the leader of the roots party until June 2, 2022, to collect enough signatures to be eligible to run.

He fulfilled the requirements when he appeared before IEBC Chebukati on Thursday.

“We can now confirm that you have met the minimum requirements…we have accepted your nomination as a Presidential candidate for the 2022 General Election…congratulations,” Chebukati said.

The IEBC chair presented him with the certificate while urging him to conduct peaceful campaigns.

In his address, Wajackoyah thanked God and the electoral commission which he said had people of integrity.

“Kenya is attaining the highest level of democracy, I want to thank the President for empowering this institution with the required resources to make it make proper determinations that are acceptable and that will go down as milestones of this country,” he noted.

He now becomes the second candidate to be cleared after Walter Mong’are of the Umoja Summit Party.
