Peres Jepchirchir Wins New York Marathon

Peres Jepchirchir, an Olympic champion, won the New York City Marathon in 2:22:39 on Sunday, surviving a tense three-way struggle before racing to the finish line.

Kenyan Viola Cheptoo came in second and Ethiopian Ababel Yeshaneh came in third.

The triumphant finish made her the first athlete to win Olympic gold and the prestigious five-borough race in the same year.
