208M Sportpesa Jackpot Winner Elected Bomet Speaker

Cosmas Korir, the 208 million Sportpesa Mega jackpot winner, defeated ten other candidates on Wednesday to become the new Bomet County Assembly speaker.

Korir received 36 votes to be declared the winner in the first round of voting, defeating his close rival Weldon Kirui, a former MCA who received only six votes.

Immediate Speaker Nelson Mutai, Bomet UDA party coordinator Stephen Mutai, Ngeny Leonard, Bii Samoei, Sigei Leonard, Gilbert Rono, Dennis Sang, and Bernard Langat are among those who had been cleared to run for the seat.

Korir ran for the Konoin parliamentary seat on the UDA ticket in the recently concluded general election, but he failed to impress in the early stages of the nomination process.

Brighton Yegon won the ticket to keep his seat.

In 2017, the 36-year-old father of three ran unsuccessfully for a parliamentary seat with the CCM party.

Korir succeeds John Langat, Geofrey Kipngetich, Shadrack Rotich, and Nelson Mutai as the fifth speaker to hold the position since 2013.
