Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has appealed for the creation of Makueni Diocese to serve the County. The appeal was made during the concecration of Bishop Joseph Mwongela as the new Bishop of Kitui.

Addressing the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya Hubert Van Mergen, Kivutha said Makueni wants a divorce from Machakos, as the Diocese has come of age. “Your Grace the Nuncio, Makueni has come of age. Please give us our own Diocese”, Kivutha pleaded.

There was a light moment when Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua said there was no crisis in Makueni, and Machakos Diocese has the capacity to continue serving them.

“We have heard the Makueni Governor. Machakos Bishop Wambua Kingoo will continue to serve you! So relax”, Mutua said in a light touch.
