6 Ways to Make your Home WiFi faster

There are few things that can infuriate a perfectly level-headed person as much as slow internet. Here are 5 things you may want to do to make your Home or Office WiFi network.

1. Centralize and raise the router

How you position the Wifi router in your home matters a lot. If your router is placed in far corners , chances are, you might get a weak signal on the other end of the house.

The ideal location of a router is close to the center of your home, in an open area, and away from other electronics, with maximized visibility. The more walls, and other obstructions near your router, the higher the chance of something interfering with your signal.

Keep the router higher. If your router has two external antennas, try positioning them perpendicular to one another — one pointing vertically and the other positioned horizontally.

2. Power line network adapters

Plug an adapter near your router and connect it to your router using an Ethernet cable. From there, you can use another Ethernet cable to connect directly into your devices. However, this can cause pain, to other users who spend time downloading large files.

3. Upgrade your router

If you paid a premium for fast home Internet and feel like you’re not getting your value, the hardware on your end may be serving as a bottleneck.

If it’s been several years since you purchased your router (or modem/router combo), it’s probably time to upgrade. Wireless and Internet technology have changed a great deal in the last decade, and many routers 5 or more years old do not support newer technology.

4. Switch to 5GHz

If you simply pulled it out of the box, installed it, and never looked back, may have missed the dropdown box that let you choose between 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

If you have a ton of electronics in your home, the 2.4GHz spectrum can get pretty crowded, so making a switch to a less crowded channel could improve speeds.

5. Set up a Wireless Security

It might be quite obvious, but plenty of wifi networks are left open and unsecured. This can cause dramatic slowdowns, due to Streamers and torrent lords who hog bandwidth to downloading large files.

6. Contact your Internet Service Provider

If all else fails, then its time to call your provider. It’s usually one of the most unpleasant things you can do with your time, but it could save you hours,of frustration.

If you’ve upgraded your Internet package and you’re using hardware supplied by your service provider, they can get the right hardware in your hands.
