A sting operation in Nairobi has led to the arrest of three suspects, including a man who impersonated a KDF commando to avoid a breathalyzer test.
The operation also uncovered a cache of grenades, ammunition, and a firearm.
The incident began when Koffi Bill Atinda, alias Don, refused to cooperate with traffic police at a roadblock. Atinda claimed to be a KDF Captain but was unable to provide identification.
Further investigation revealed that Atinda was not in the military and was arrested on traffic charges.
Following his release, Atinda was ambushed by anti-robbery police who found fake currency, a police phone, and suspicious documents in his car.
A search of his residence uncovered military fatigues and social media posts featuring firearms.
The investigation led to the arrest of two more suspects. Kennedy Otieno Omwanda, Atinda’s alleged driver, was found to have grenades, a firearm, and ammunition in his house.
The third suspect, Kennedy Otieno Odhiambo, allegedly received the grenades from a Kenya Prisons officer, who is also being investigated.
Police are searching for a long-barreled rifle and believe there may be more members of the ring involved.
