ACK Bishop Ole Sapit Calls on Youth to End Protests, Allow Ruto to Act On Demands

The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) has urged the youth to suspend their anti-government protests and give President William Ruto time to implement their demands.

Speaking at a press conference, ACK Archbishop Jackson ole Sapit emphasized that the President has already started implementing some of the demands, including the firing of his Cabinet, signing of the IEBC (Amendment) Bill, 2024 into law, and the resignation of police boss Japhet Koome.

“We appeal to the Gen Zs to give the government time to implement the changes they have demanded,” Archbishop Sapit said.

“As he appoints the new team, the President should look for merit in those who will be replacing those who were removed.”

The Archbishop further cautioned the youth against taking actions that may jeopardize their own future and that of all Kenyans.

He urged both the government and protesters to uphold the rule of law and avoid actions that may lead to chaos and suffering.

“Let the police provide protestors with security and professionally manage protests without resorting to the use of live bullets, teargassing of demonstrators, and arbitrary arrests,” he said.

Archbishop Sapit also condemned recent attacks on media personalities, saying that every Kenyan has the right to information.

“We say no to harming of anyone who is informing Kenyans,” he stated.

The ACK added it will continue to monitor progress and demand that all commitments made are implemented.
