Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi sentenced former head of procurement at the National Youth Service (NYS), Hendrick Nyongesa, to seven years in prison after being found guilty of falsifying a document.
In another charge, Nyongesa was sentenced to five years in prison for breach of trust by a person employed in the Public Service.
Consequently, the former NYS director of finance, Samuel Wachenje, was jailed to five years in prison without the option of a fine
The two convicts were found guilty of conspiring to defraud NYS Ksh.791 million.
The court heard that Nyongesa, together with others not before the court, created a false document with the intention to defraud a Ministry of Public Works Supplies Branch circular purporting it to be an authentic document from said ministry.
It was the court’s finding that the two convicts between December 1, 2014, and June 5, 2015, breached trust by processing payments that resulted in financial losses in NYS.
