Maesaiah Thabane, wife to Lesotho’s Prime Minister Thomas Thabane, will be charged with the murder of her ex-husband’s wife Lipolelo Thabane.

Maesaiah fled the country last month to escape arrest. She jetted back to the country on Tuesday afternoon and handed herself to the police on Wednesday for questioning in connection with the murder.

The arrest warrant was issued the day she fled the country after the First Lady refused to report to the police for questioning on the same.

The Prime Minister’s estranged wife, Lipolelo, was shot dead outside her home in capital Maseru in 2017.

According to a report from Al Jazeera, Lipolelo was murdered two days before Thabane’s second term inauguration just two years after a court ruled that Lipolelo was the lawful First Lady and entitled to benefits.

Maesaiah was married two months after the death of the Ex-First Lady.

Thomas was two weeks ago interrogated by officers for alleged use of his mobile phone to communicate with someone in the scene of the crime.

The Prime Minister, 80, last month announced his intentions to resign after he was considered no longer fit to lead by the governing party.
