Bishop Charles Ong’injo Accuses Ruto Government of Repression and Neglect of Luo Community

Anglican Bishop Charles Ong’injo has sharply criticized President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of state repression and failing to address the economic and political concerns of the Luo community.

Speaking during a funeral service in Kisumu on Friday, Bishop Ong’injo alleged that Kenya has witnessed 82 abductions since June 2024, alongside killings and intimidation targeting government critics.

He linked these developments to what he described as growing national frustration driven by rising food and electricity prices and worsening living conditions.

The cleric questioned the tangible benefits that the Nyanza region has received from having Opiyo Wandayi and John Mbadi serve as Cabinet Secretaries in the current government, saying their appointments had not translated into visible improvements for the local population.

Ong’injo also reflected on the recent death of engineer Hannington Raburu Juma, suggesting it symbolized the broader social and emotional pressures affecting Kenyan citizens amid the country’s economic hardships.

His remarks, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, have drawn praise from several politicians and activists, who commended the bishop for his courage in speaking out against government excesses.
