The 52-year-old Charles Osore, who killed a python after it attacked and killed his dog at Luoka village Madungu sub-location in Ugunja Sub-county, is set to receive government compensation.
The incident, which drew national attention after circulating on social media prompted a visit by from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers.

Speaking at the home of Charles Osore, Senior Warden for Kisumu and Siaya Counties Grace Kariuki thanked him for cooperating with authorities despite the loss of his dog, saying that they visited to support him and to begin the compensation process.
KWS officials assured residents that the government will handle the matter and emphasized the importance of reporting wildlife incidents promptly.
The team also pledged to conduct awareness sessions in the area to educate communities on how to respond to wildlife encounters.
Mzee Osore lauded the government for heeding the community’s concerns, while urging Kenya Wildlife Service officials to act with speed and efficiency whenever reports of human–wildlife conflicts are raised.
Osore stunned the nation after killing the constrictor snake that had attacked his dog, then took both carcasses to the local police station. His dramatic protest was aimed at drawing attention to the rising cases of human–wildlife conflict in the region.
