Babu Owino Rallies Lawyers, Promises Free Legal Aid Ahead of 2027 Elections

Babu Owino met with a team of lawyers and advocates on April 14 in preparation for the upcoming 2027 elections, in a meeting held at an undisclosed location.

The meeting focused on addressing potential legal challenges that may arise before and during the election period, and exploring ways to support ordinary Kenyans who cannot afford legal representation.

The legal team includes advocates such as Terry Kavuli, Jacob Were, Thuku Ndungu, Mwenda Kirima, Steve Ochieng, and Grace Mwende, among others.

“For far too long, many Kenyans have been wrongly charged or unjustly detained for offences they did not commit, often simply because they lacked proper legal representation,” Owino said.

He added that the team will remain accessible to defend Kenyans across a wide range of issues, including matatu drivers and boda boda riders facing harassment, students unfairly suspended or expelled, and young people arrested while participating in demonstrations.

“There is no voice too low for the court of justice to hear,” said Mwende.

The legal team also pledged to offer pro bono services to vulnerable and marginalised groups, including victims of police brutality, survivors of gender-based violence, individuals facing unlawful evictions, and families seeking justice for their loved ones.

“Justice should never be a privilege for the few; it is a right for all,” Owino said.
