KVM Officially Opens New Tire Assembly Line in Boost for Kenya’s Auto Industry

By Stacy Boit

Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers (KVM) has officially launched its new tire assembly line in a major milestone for Kenya’s automotive manufacturing sector.

The event brought together top government and industry leaders, including the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry Lee Kinyanjui, the Head of Toyota Africa and CEO Africa Division Mr. Fabrice, and CFAO Group Board Chairman and CEO Ambassador Dennis Awari.

Speaking at the launch, KVM officials highlighted the company’s commitment to growing local vehicle assembly in Kenya.

The firm noted its success with models like the Fortuner and confirmed it will not stop there.

The expansion is backed by MOUs signed with the government of Kenya aimed at developing the country’s motor industry and increasing local content manufacturing.

Leaders stressed that the growth of Kenya’s auto sector depends on full government support, financing, and technical backing.

They pointed to South Africa’s vibrant automotive industry as a model, noting that strong policy and investment have made it a continental leader.

The Cabinet Secretary is expected to join the President in South Africa later today to attract more investment for Kenya’s manufacturing sector.

KVM also announced it will focus on vehicle safety, quality, and expanding beyond passenger vehicles into trucks.

The company is further looking at “end-of-life” solutions for vehicles to address what happens when cars reach the end of their use cycle — an area officials said is currently unclear in Kenya’s policy framework.

With the new assembly line operational, KVM says it remains committed to multi-factory production and strengthening Kenya’s position in regional auto manufacturing.
