The Nairobi Metropolitan Services Director General Major General Mohamed Badi has this afternoon addressed the media on the ongoing demolitions of the famous Lunar Park.

The general said that the main reason for the demolitions was to create a bus terminus to help decongest Nairobi CBD.

“We are in the process of reducing congestion in the CBD and one way is to ensure that all the public transport has terminus outside CBD. All the PSVs coming from Machakos, Mombasa road, Ngong, and Rongai will end up here which will be named Green Park Terminus,” said Badi.

The traders were requested to move their businesses in a notice that indicated a transfer of Lunar Parkland from the Kenya Railways Staff Retirement Benefit Scheme.

He further requested members of the business community to corporate with the government for a smooth implementation of the initiative.

“We are not chasing anybody away and these restaurants you see here are part of essential services that all passengers will require,” added Badi.

However, Badi directed those who were not intending to stay put to seek compensation through the Kenya Railways.

The China Road and Bridge Corperation (CRBC) will put up a bus terminal as part of the infrastructure in the Nairobi Expressway project.
