Kiema Sues Kalonzo Over Malombe Direct Ticket

Former Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda Julius Kiema Kilonzo has threatened to sue the Wiper party over claims that the party had issued a direct ticket to Dr. Julius Malombe.

Kiema is up against former Kitui Governor Julius Makau Malombe for the Wiper party’s Kitui gubernatorial ticket.

According to a statement released by Kiema through his advocate Eric Mutua, Wiper’s party leader had exchanged text messages with Kiema requesting him to appear before religious leaders on the 18th April 2022 at 4.00p.m in order to attempt a consensus between him and Dr. Julius Malombe.

However, when Kiema arrived at the Command Centre on the scheduled date and time, he found no one there.

“Immediately thereafter our client started receiving social media alerts to the effect that the National Executive Committee (NEC) had met yesterday the 18th April 2022 and resolved to recommend or approve the issuance of a direct Nomination Certificate or Party ticket for Kitui gubernatorial contest to Dr. Julius Malombe,” part of the statement read.

Kiema now wants to know if the NEC passed a resolution endorsing or allowing the former governor’s direct nomination or if the National Elections Board has issued him a certificate before the end of April 19, 2022.

The ticket, which he would have flown with Kalonzo Musyoka’s son, Kelvin Muasya, has since been given to the former governor.
