Sportpesa CEO Ronald Karauri has been declared the winner of the Kasarani MP seat.
Karauri received his nomination certificate from Kasarani’s returning officer on Thursday at the constituency tallying center.
The CEO, who ran on an independent ticket, received 32,406 votes, compared to 30,444 for John Kamau and 24,790 for incumbent MP Mercy Gakuya.
Karauri stated in his acceptance speech that he is open to working with his competitors.
“If they have ideas, we welcome them. I doubt if they have better ideas than mine, but whatever they have is welcome. We have broken a record as first independent candidate to win an election in Nairobi. Kenyans are moving away from just electing parties,” Karauri said.
He ran as an Independent candidate after failing to secure the Jubilee Party’s nomination during the party’s primaries in April 2022.

His win underscored Kasarani as a constituency that never re-elected an MP in the last 39 years.
The last MP who enjoyed a second term was Munyua Waiyaki, who had four uninterrupted terms from 1963.
