Kitale Man Jailed For 90 years Raping, Killing A Swedish Missionary

Chris Wanjala and Dominic Nyongesa were found guilty of the horrible murder of Ms Lilian Bourcart, 74, who was engaged in charity work

Kitale Law Courts sentenced a 24-year-old man to 90 years in jail after he was found guilty of brutally robbing, raping, and murdering a Swedish missionary.

Chris Wanjala and Dominic Nyongesa were found guilty of the horrible murder of Ms Lilian Bourcart, 74, who was engaged in charity work and ran a children’s home in Milimani estate in Kitale town.

Ms Lilian Bourcart was their employer at the time of the murder.

Joyce Mumu (SPPC) lead the prosecution in proving the case before Hon. Julius Ng’arng’ar.

Nyongesa stated in court that he was a minor at the time of the offence and that he is now 19 years old, despite the fact that the court was informed that he was beyond the age of 20 during the proceedings.

Kitale Chief Magistrate Julius N’garng’ar sentenced Wanjala to the specified jail term and postponed the sentencing of his accomplice pending an age assessment. The ruling will be delivered on January 9th.

According to prosecutor Joyce Mumu, since the crime was a capital offence, the two merited the maximum penalty to serve as a lesson and deterrent to others.

The trial Court, Hon. Ng’arng’ar, said that the punishment is intended to be deterrent, retributive, and rehabilitative, given the brutality used to perpetrate the crime.
