President Mwai Kibaki lost his political mojo in 2005…after he failed to tame his thieving ministers
The story of rags to riches stories of Dr Chris Murungaru, Matere Keriri, and Kiraitu Murungi are the tales of legends.
Not to forget KANU activist Mary Wambui, who became so powerful that Kibaki called a press conference to clarify who his wife and children were.
Kibaki, then in a wheelchair but mentally sound allow his inner circle to revive the Anglo Leasing scandal.
He studiously maintained his peace as Artur Brothers were hired as Police officers, and promoted to the position of Deputy Commissioners of Police within a day. And allowed to raid the Standard Newspapers.
Within two years of his Presidency, graft in President Kibaki’s inner circle made retired President Moi look like a Saint.
Having been voted overwhelmingly by more than 70 per cent of Kenyans, Kibaki discarded the goodwill he enjoyed. And elected to accommodate his thieving friends.
By 2005, Kenyans were so fed up with Kibaki, that they rejected an excellent constitutional draft in a referendum.
By the time the 2007 elections arrived, Kibaki was damaged goods. He went into the election limping. And gasping for breath.
He hurriedly embraced retired President Moi. Who by then was damaged political goods in Rift Valley.
Not even the Tharaka Nithi and Juja suspect votes could give Kibaki a clear win against Raila Odinga, William Ruto, Musalia Mudavadi and Charity Ngilu.
The 2008 Post-election violence was brewed in the pot of corruption and Kibaki political blunders.
Had GEMA elders, not arm-twisted Uhuru Kenyatta to support Kibaki, he would have been a one-term President.
Of course, Kalonzo helped Kibaki remain in power by pocketing half a million Kamba votes. And accepting to be the Vice President in a flawed Government
Kibaki’s worst Achilles heel was sacking Kalenjins from Government. In the process, he lost the entire Rift Valley
It is the sacked Kalenjins who bankrolled and voted for Raila in 2007
President Ruto profiled and sacked former President Uhuru’s allies in the Government
Unlike Kibaki, Uhuru’s allies are spread across Kenya. And they are bitter
