Adidas has revealed the official match ball for the 2021/22 Champions League final, inscribed with a message of ‘peace’ in a clear reference to the war in Ukraine.
The ball’s design is purposefully simple, with white panels and silver stars framing the word “peace” in both English and the letters of the Ukrainian Cyrillic alphabet.
The German sportswear company unveiled the ball on Tuesday, which will not be available for retail but will be auctioned off, with proceeds being donated to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to support those who have been forced to flee their homes.
The panels of the ball are also deliberately white rather than coloured, synonymous with peace, ‘unity’ and neutrality.
On Saturday night, Liverpool and Real Madrid will compete in the European Cup final at the Stade de France in Paris.
