AFCON Qualifiers Postponed Over Qatar Preparations

The upcoming round of Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which was scheduled for September, has been postponed.

This, according to the Confederation of African Football, is to give the five World Cup-bound teams on the continent the chance to play better practice matches before the tournament in Qatar

Since the Ivory Coast’s next Cup of Nations finals were moved from June of 2019 to January of 2024, there had been little discussion of the postponement.

Coach Aliou Cisse of Senegal was one of the more outspoken opponents of the schedule, which would have required his nation to play Mozambique twice in Cup of Nations qualifiers in the final window of opportunity in September if they wanted to play teams from other continents prior to the World Cup.

Senegal is anticipated to soon reveal alternate matchups. Besides Tunisia, Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco, and Tunisia will all have teams competing at the World Cup finals.
