The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has ordered President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to cease the insults.

Kenyans look to the two leaders to lead the way to a peaceful election, NCIC chairperson Samuel Kobia warned on Saturday, even as political tensions in the nation continue to rise.

“His excellency the President and Deputy president, all Kenyans are looking up to you to provide a situation in which tensions will not be high and where Kenyans can really see that our leaders are helping us to move towards a situation where we have a peaceful election,” Prof. Kobia said in a statement.

Prof. Kobia was giving a speech in Nakuru at a concert for peace that included representatives from various industry segments.

The commission held a month-long sensitization campaign to encourage political tolerance and peaceful coexistence during this time, culminating in the concert.

President Kenyatta fired shots at his deputy during his two-day visit to Nakuru County on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week, calling Dr. Ruto unqualified to succeed him.

However, Ruto fired back asking President Uhuru to steer clear of his name.
