A manhunt has been started by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations after a remandee escaped from police custody.
On Wednesday morning, the inmate broke out of his cell at the Industrial Area police station after being led outside to take a bath.
On July 19, Erickson Khata, 19, was detained and charged with defiling in violation of Section 8 of the Sexual Offenses Act at Makadara Law Courts.
Khata asked to be allowed to take a bath on Wednesday morning, and a police officer working the report office escorted him to get some water and take a bath.
According to DCI, Khata only took his underwear with him and left his prison uniform behind.
Khata complained that he was a minor while being held in the maximum security Nairobi remand allocation prison. He was brought back to court, where a directive was made to have his age determined.
He was taken to the Mbagathi hospital on July 26 where the necessary tests were done and his apparent age was determined to be 19 years old.
