In addition to enhancing food security and nutrition, the Ahero Irrigation Scheme generates wealth for the farmers, raising their level of living by giving them access to proper medical care, education, shelter, and clothing.

Communities nearby can have a source of fresh produce thanks to crop variety in the Ahero Irrigation Scheme.

The Ahero Irrigation Scheme produces about 18,000 metric tons of rice annually, and as 2,500 acres at Okana continue to be added, that amount is expected to rise.

The Ahero irrigation scheme is currently being extended to produce an extra 1000 acres.

More than 400 farmers will benefit from the development, who will grow irrigated green grams and sorghum under contract.

Crop diversification is encouraged by the National Irrigation Authority in order for the country to achieve not only food security but also nutrition.
