Al Shabaab Militants Behead 72 Year old Man, Set 10 Houses On Fire

Suspected Al-Shabaab militants beheaded a 72-year-old man in the Lamu County villages of Marafa and Poromoko.

Local administrators, who spoke on the condition of anonymity on Sunday, said the incident occurred around 9 p.m. when heavily armed assailants raided the two villages.

At least ten houses were also set on fire by the attackers.

The attackers set fire to four houses in Marafa village and beheaded a 72-year-old man named John Thuo.

They then went to the nearby village of Poromoko, where they destroyed six houses, slaughtered chickens, and stole household items. One of the burned-out homes belonged to a National Police Reserve officer.

According to a police report on the incident, one motorcycle was burned, and the raiders destroyed and uprooted maize in one farm. The report also named eight people whose homes were set on fire.

The attack comes three months after a similar one in Widho-Mashambani, Lamu West, in which gateman George of Majembeni Primary School was kidnapped and beheaded by assailants at his homestead.

Seven houses were set on fire, and chickens and goats were slaughtered before the attackers fled to Boni Forest.

One of the burned-out homes belonged to a National Police Reserve officer.
